Troy, how do you guys setup Dereks 8T? I bought one just to try out and see if I like it. I only ran maybe two tanks through it at JTEC the other day and only one of those tanks
was with a decent set of tires. Rear end seemed really loose and I didnt have time to mess with it and didnt race truggy. Shock springs and position was all at factory settings. I bought it used so not sure what fluids are in it. Newer bowties were the tires. thanks

We are running the kit set-up thats in the back of the 8ight T manual other than front and rear shock oil.

front 54 pistons 40 wt Losi oil
rear 56 pistons with 27.5 Losi oil

We normally run the kit tires they work well. If the track is clean and grooved Holeshots are great.

The truck will probably feel loose to you until you get used to it.
It is about the only 8th Arena truck that actually turns without being thrown around.

I'll give it a try. Ive been racing a Jammin CRT and it actually turned better IMO before I put all the BCE stuff on it. But its cool that I can take that left sweeper at the end of the straightaway full throttle all way around to the moguls pretty much.

The stock set-up that comes on the truck out of the box is in the back of the manual.
If you don't have it I am sure it is on the Losi website.
The set-up we are running is actually Mike Truhe's set-up except he runs the long ackerman bar.
If you can't find the stock set-up on the Losi site I am sure that Mike's is on there.
We were going to put Derek's 8ight and 8ight T set-up on the Losi site but I don't have an editable version of acrobatic reader to make them.

Most that have driven Derek's truck say it is real loose but he still complains it needs to turn more. LOL
Next spring we are going to work hard on fine tuning the truck.

Troy, didn't the long ackerman arm help him with more steering?

The buggy set-up says to use the long ackerman but we have went to the short one on the buggy.
The Truck comes from the factory with the short ackerman and some have switched to the long but we haven't.
The short ackerman will give you more initial turn in but it also makes the car a bit more twitchy feeling. Most could probably turn laps a bit slower with the short arm but will be a lot more consistant.

This is all very interesting...

I run the short ackerman arm on both my buggy and truggy (8 and 8T.)  When I first built the buggy, I used the recommended long arm, but I liked it a lot better when I switched to the short one.  I currently run Associated shock oils... 40 in the front and 30 in the rear on both vehicles with the "stock" or suggested springs that the race roller 8T and 8 kit come with.  I think that is black front and gray rear for the 8T and silver front and green rear for the 8.

I think I'm running the same clutch setup as Derek with 4 King Headz 7075 shoes on both, but 4 silver springs on the truggy and 2 silver and 2 gold on the buggy.  I've always liked a later, more aggressive punch like that.

Also, don't forget that not everyone drives like Derek.  He's usually on the throttle all the time.  He keeps his wheels cranked and steers with his throttle.  This is just something to keep in mind.  His setup will not work the best for everyone, even though it works great for him...

Art, 4 Losi carbon shoes with gold springs. Totally dialed in the main. Between the clutch change and going to the 2 toe/ 2 squat for the main Derek ran like five 32 second laps and the fastest being a 32.0.

I believe the all carbon shoes are great for a slick and choppy track. Be sure and use a clutch bell that has NEVER had aluminum shoes in it before with the carbons.

To gain corner entrance steering

1. More front toe out
2. more rear/less front brakes will help
3. Moonshots will tend to push especially on corner entrance
4. ride heigth is very important and should be checked before every race (27mm front and 28mm rear)

To gain more corner exit sterring

1. Less rear toe
2. lighter rear diff oil
3. rear hubs spaced all te way back
